Dear blog,

I regret to inform you that I got a sewing machine. My attention is being pulled elsewhere. No worries, you are my favorite hobby and I assume always will be. Sew sorry. Love you, Katie.

Two little nuggets of fun...

Just in time for Christmas, this little gift arrived in the mail today. From me to you this holiday season. Cross my lap, I swear.

Also, saw this video over at Rage Against the Minivan and LOVED IT. I mean, couldn't freakin' love it any more. Not possible.

Cookies, round 1!

Aren't these amazing? My mom bought them for us. We had a great (dramatic) time making and then decorating them. Unfortunately, that's where the fun ended. Let's just say we'll never use this recipe ever again. Ack.

I love him.

You can watch the whole thing OR let it load and watch from 11:30 to see E-beast in all his glory.

A gentle reminder...

St Louis peeps: bring it. Literally.

Other states: send me your pics and your stories! Make sure your state's name in on the pic somewhere!

Currently, Shay is in her 50th state, Hawaii! She will be 100% finished on Friday! I can't imagine!

Not sure what I'm talking about? click here.

(Haven't purchased or donated yet? pop-tabbed cans of stuff they can eat w/o cooking is great, i.e. tuna, soup, fruit)

DUE THIS WEEK. DUE THIS WEEK. Like the 15 babies at our church (not really). DUE THIS WEEK!

Snow, snow, snow, snow, SNOW!

I'm a little behind but chances are high that you are too, so it's all good. We got our first big snow on Sunday! Here's a snippet of our afternoon:

A very committed snow angel here, friends.

Soap box?

***Warning! I'm not feeling well which leads to crankiness. There's probably a better way to express the legitimate things wrong here, but I'm too tired to think it through.

I stayed home from work Tuesday, not feeling the best. While watching a lame chick flick, I saw this commercial. (go to the 3rd one, with the lady carrying groceries)

Perhaps this was medicine-induced but, it made me mad.

Hey, lady, perhaps you wouldn't need to work 2 jobs if you didn't have that amazing house? And why the heck is your husband home at 2:30 reading a magazine while you struggle to carry all the groceries inside while in between jobs? I'm so annoyed. Maybe he works from home, sure, I get that. Doing what? Reading magazines? Lame, I tell you. Perhaps he could put his mag down long enough to have a good family chat about "living beyond your means" as a problem/solution instead of recommending an energy drink. Way to take care of your wife, mag-man.

Was the advertising team for this product really thinking this was a great family dynamic to portray? You missed it, team-5-hour. Way to congratulate passive men and the prison that is the American Dream House.

Rant over.

Time for Dinner?

Before Thanksgiving, we went to Time for Dinner. We used to go pretty frequently but hadn't in awhile. With all we've had going on, we made the brilliant choice to hit TFD to make the sides for the big meal. Smartest thing I've done since choosing Spanish as a minor. Keep it in mind if you are in charge of Christmas dinner...just sayin'.

And you can bring Anikin to watch, too.

Hodge to the Podge

Is this amazing? I think so. Would it be illegal to roadtrip out and acquire this for myself? Thanks Trena!

Added 2 more states to this list. But seriously, folks. 36 states, where you at?! If we hit 25 before the end of the weekend, I might just sport a Bump-it. I have one, you know, and I'm not afraid to use it.

We started Elf on the Shelf this year. Eliot was 9 kinds of freaked out the first couple days but we're good now. He's into it. He named it Okra. Of course. Russ thinks Okra looks like Gilly.

I don't disagree.

This post hit right where it needed to. I know I haven't talked about it in awhile but sometimes (in)fertility just sucks. Sucks.

This post had me laughing, cheering, crying, whathaveyou.

Go buy some socks and cans. Do it. In love. And watch this CNN video on Shay.

Exercise! (your right to vote, duh.)

Go to Fresh Art Photography and vote! However, PLEASE VOTE FOR DANA AND JOE! (#9, record player shot) We already have oodles of pics of ourselves. Seriously. You might assume we're a little obsessed with ourselves if you saw them all.

Don't feed the beast, vote for Dana and Joe! (If that's not a great campaign slogan, I don't know what is.)

Socks and Can Cans! (dancers optional)

LOVING the responses we've gotten so far! You guys are rocking this mission. Perhaps we should do this every Nov/Dec?

If you're new here, bienvenidos. Click here to get a little background on "The Extra 50". (I just made that up.)

Several of you have asked which states are already signed up so you can get the word out to those we don't have.

Here's the sitch:
YES (14):
New York

everything else. help. please. one can will do. one sock. they don't even have to match.

And I think I over-explained what we're doing. That is just so unlike me to keep talking and talking and not really explain something. It's the weirdest thing. (awkward face)

So, here's the deets for you and yours this holiday season:
1.Gather as many cans and socks as you can (via friends, neibs, fam, church, whathaveyou).

2. Make a simple sign with your state's name on it. (seriously, no pressure to be a graphic designer here. It doesn't even need to be spelled correctly)

3. Take a pic of your collection w/ your state sign and email it to me by December 18 (Shay's official last day).

4. Donate your collection to your local shelter/food bank. DO NOT SEND THEM TO ST. LOUIS. We do not want canned corn from every state arriving at my house. Sorry to be so high maintenance on that. =)

By the way, if your state is already listed, it's okay to still do a collection of your own. I'll bet it would still be useful...
