Answer Key

First of all, the first response I got was from my friend Heather who called and acted like she was calling into a radio station. Very entertaining. Secondly, I'm assuming that you who guessed 'head shot' must think E is as adorable as we do, although no one said anything to the effect of "It's about time" or anything, hmmmm. But moving on...

Question 1:Yes, it's a passport picture!

Question 2: Yes, we're traveling with E-man. No, it's not to Cancun (that trip is reserved for Russ and I only!) Yes, we're.....wait for it, wait for it...

WE'RE GOING TO GUATEMALA!!!!!

Initiate freak out mode.

Now, let me just say one thing. (and then lots more things...) God is nuts. He has all these crazy plans and I'm convinced He loves surprises. As things like this unfold, I imagine Him chillin' with 'Gabriel and friends' with a bowl of popcorn and watching us as we begin to see slivers of His really great plan.

Here's the story:
Our church normally has a trip to Honduras with the youth group every summer. This year was no different. However, there was a plane crash at the Honduran airport recently and the government saw fit to close it until further notice. This left a group of leaders and kids without their trip. Once I heard about this, my brain hasn't stopped. Through a series of very fortunate events, our church has rerouted the mission trip to Antigua!!! And to add to that, Russ and I are going along as leaders! We're partnering with my dear friend, Melissa, to do some incredible ministry!!!

I CAN NOT WAIT to bring this group to Guate! I'm so anxious to share that which is so close to my heart with part of the body of Christ that supported us so well through our adoption process.

A couple of ironic fun facts (who doesn't love fun facts?):
*Russ and I took the youth group to Honduras several years ago which turned out to be one of the deciding factors in where to internationally adopt. We fell in love with the Honduran little faces while we served along side the high school kids. Once we started the adoption process, we checked into Honduras but it was closed to US adoptions so we went next door!

*This will be the third summer the Mohr's have been to Guatemala! Two summers ago we came down to meet Eliot, last summer is when we came home and now this summer we're going back!

Pop Quiz?

Anyone know what this is and why we need it?????

(Family may not participate, ya cheaters....)

New pics

Here's a few from Father's Day hanging out for the afternoon. I was trying to let Russ rest but Eliot was bound and determined to climb all over him. Sorry, Russ!

Today we spent the morning at Monkey Joe's again. My friend Erin from CO is in town and we wanted to get our boys together. Her son is fearless! It was such a treat to have a playdate for the morning! I haven't seen Erin in probably over 2 years, so this morning was such a blessing! I wish we lived closer to each other!

Apparently my camera doesn't have an "attack" setting.

Happy Father's Day!

As I thought ahead to this post, I was reminded of my favorite musical condiments. I am choosing to honor my 'man' with their lyrical genius in place of my usual ramblings. So, without further ado...

(Note to reader: some lyrics have been removed as they have a touch too much 'Pepa')

Whatta man, Whatta man
Whatta mighty good man

I wanna take a minute or two, and give much respect to
To the man that's made a difference in my world

I know that aint nobody perfect
I give props to those who deserve it
And believe me y'all, he's worth it

So here's to the future cuz we got through the past
I finally found someone that can make me laugh
(Ha ha ha) You so crazy
I think I wanna have your baby

My man is smooth like Barry, and his voice got bass
A body like Arnold with a Denzel face

He's smart like a doctor with a real good rep
And when he comes home he's relaxed with Pep
He always got a gift for me every time I see him
A lot of snot-nosed ex-flames couldn't be him

He dresses like a dapper don, but even in jeans
He's a God-sent original, the man of my dreams

Yes, my man says he loves me, never says he loves me not

He always has heavy conversation for the mind
Which means a lot to me cuz good men are hard to find

A lover and a fighter and he'll knock another out
Don't take him for a sucker cuz that's not what he's about
Every time I need him, he always got my back
Never disrespectful, cuz his mama taught him that

Whatta man, Whatta man Whatta man
Whatta mighty good man

What's ahead?

So, I mentioned in my previous post that one of the joys of not working full-time is being able to enjoy little things with Eliot. Well, he's at a stage where every day presents an opportunity for him to show off something he knows how to say/do that he didn't have in his repertoire previously. Yesterday he showed us that he could, in fact, dribble a ball. The refs are still reviewing the tapes to see who actually taught him that, Coach Danger-Russ or Coach Special-K. Not sure we'll have a conclusive answer on that any time soon.

Yesterday afternoon Eliot was carrying a tupperware lid as though it were a tray like a waiter would. So, when he offered it to me, I gladly took it and began to fake eat the invisible food. He was quite delighted in this new game and we took turns for quite a while fake eating. Then at one point, he stopped his "chewing" and put the plate on the floor, folded his hands, said, "Pray" and bowed his head. So, we gave thanks for our imaginary meal, said, "Amen" and continued eating. He generously offered his imaginary food to Daisy, Russ, Jack (the yorkie) and even to a picture of our friend Mike.

These stories are always cute and I'm always excited to blog about them so we can be able to look back in a few years or even months and see the progression of his skills and personality. But as a mom, I begin to wonder what's ahead. What clues do we have now of who E-man will be? Was this spontaneous commitment to giving thanks a sign of a child who naturally has a heart of gratitude in life? I hope so. I guess there's also a point where our parenting/guiding stops and his natural personality steps in. I can't wait to see how that all plays out. When little things like that happen, I think back to a couple blog entries by my friend Chrissy who has four boys. She posted four separate blogs about her 4 boys and each of them I found to be so interesting that I keep going back to them. There's E, and J, , and E,, and her oldest, N. If you can't see, I added the link to each of those blogs to their letter.

Stats, sorry!

I forgot to post the #'s! It's really more for the babybook element than for your curiosity but here they are: Eliot's stats included being a little over 25lbs, and 34 inches tall. That means he grew 3+lbs and 3+inches in the last six months! He's pretty much a giant.

What?!

A true double-take occurred today. We took E-beast to the doctor for his 2-year wellness. Everything looked great, he's developing great, etc. He was silly and giggly with her, showing off some skills and being pretty dang cute. Then she asked to see his teeth which he proudly showed her and then stuck his tongue out like she asked to which she said she was checking for his 2 YEAR MOLARS! What????!!! Noone said anything about more teeth in the near future! Where have I been? I thought we were clear for a few years! Eliot is/ has been such an easy baby/kid unless he's teething. How has no one mentioned this yet? I read a gazillion blogs of people who have toddlers and no one has made any reference to this! Can someone clue me in here? Are they not as bad as the first molars?

The great news is that I'm done teaching! I couldn't be happier about it! My joy manifests itself in little ways. For example, after the doctor appt today, Eliot wanted to show me the "2" on our license plate so we took a few minutes to talk about each of the letters instead of the usual "eliot, hurry up, we have to ..." that is the norm.

Now it's time to clean my house. And I mean clean the house. It's been low on the priority list for the last several months and it shows. Yikes.

Also, blogging is now higher on the list! I should update on a more regular basis now that school isn't sucking all my time and energy! So many posts have been started and are just sitting there waiting for some attention! Thanks to all who have stuck around! Have a great day!

New Roomie

We have a new roomie, Laura, Russ' cousin. She's doing an internship in STL this summer and we offered our house as a landing pad. Eliot's excited about his new roomie that came along with Laura...

Summertime-ish

We've been slowly introducing all the toys E got for his birthday to him since his party. Today, in honor of ridiculous temperatures, we opened the bubbles machine from the DeGroots. Here's a few pics of the afternoon fun! He just kept running around the front yard yelling "Bubbles!Bubbles!"

(This is where he figured out how to turn it on and off, little turkey!)
